Operations Manager & Aquatic Therapist
Tyson Bierwolf came to us from Northern California in hopes of one day working in the water full-time, having pivoted to massage therapy after an accomplished career in the service industry. He joined our team in 2018 as one of our independently-contracted aquatic practitioners, and has expanded his role in 2022 to be the new Operations Manager for our facility in San Diego. Before becoming a massage therapist and beginning his tenure with Healing Wave Aquatics, Tyson earned a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley, and spent 15 years in hospitality throughout California and Nevada, specializing in restaurant management, elite service, and hotel administration. His comprehensive experience from world-class resorts, proven multi-disciplinary approach honed through the management of unique, high-end environments, paired with an international massage therapy career and his previous work with our Veterans in years passed, make him a dynamic and welcome addition to our team.
Tyson is a CA CMT, Watsu® Practitioner, Certified Teacher & Advanced Practitioner in Northern Style Thai Yoga Massage. Tyson’s bodywork journey took him from its inception in San Francisco to Thailand, where his studies brought him to Chiang Mai and he was extensively trained in Nuad Boran, a 2,500 year old healing practice that is the only bodywork modality on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. After returning to the US, he had the fortunate opportunity to learn Watsu from its inventor, Harold Dull, and his practice eventually expanded to include Waterdance, under the stewardship of Dave Towe through his programs with The Wave Academy and at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico.
