Our Impact
Healing Wave Aquatics is a premier provider of aquatic bodywork therapy for military veterans, active duty personnel, and caregivers living with the debilitating impacts of post-traumatic stress. Through research and compelling personal client accounts, we find that when individuals with PTS receive aquatic therapy, the results are often immediate and profound. Reduced stress, better sleep, the ability to think more clearly, minimized physical pain and an overall sense of well-being are just some of the powerful healing effects of treatment on PTS. When the same therapy is given to their caregivers, they report many of the same benefits, often feeling revitalized and thus better able to support their loved ones in their own recovery process.
Partners who refer their clients to our program have noticed that when aquatic therapy is done in conjunction with other mental and behavioral health therapies, their clients progress faster. Our key outcomes of Trust and Calm provide a new baseline for clients to be open to their progress.
We conduct an operationalized program format with data measurement, high-level services provided by practitioners who provide their annual certification updates, and continuous learning opportunities for staff and practitioners in trauma-informed care. The average annual change in PTS symptoms between pre- and post-assessment is 18% - 25%, allowing clients to use new tools and move forward in their lives with trust and calm.
On Veteran's Day 2022, Healing Wave Aquatics officially cut the ribbon and opened the doors to our state-of-the-art aquatic therapy facility to our community dealing with trauma and PTS. This facility is the first of its kind in the country and provides San Diego’s veteran community with access to the treatments they need to heal, recover and lead healthy and fulfilling lives. In 2022, Healing Wave Aquatics was able to provide 43% more sessions and 22% more orientations than the previous year.
Over the past 12 years, we have served over 1,000 veteran, active-duty military, and their caregivers. We are looking forward to expanding our program to other vulnerable populations in the future.
