The 2019 Waves for the Brave 5K is in the books and it was a huge success! This event brought together the local community and honored San Diego’s active-duty military and veterans during this Memorial Day Weekend.
Wave Academy was able to raise $18,246 this year to sponsor active-duty military, veterans, and caregivers through our healing program of aquatic therapy.
We were also pleased to have Natay Holmes of ABC 10 News San Diego visit our event and put together a great feature story telling the Wave Academy story to the local community.
We would like to thank the Ramona High School JROTC cadets and staff for providing this year’s color guard, Eve Jack for her gorgeous performance of the National Anthem, Paul Greer for volunteering as the race announcer again this year, Joe Crosswhite for coming early and setting up the course, Roger and Ryan from Fusion Timing for the chipping and timing needs, and The Roy Rockers for providing an outstanding live music show.
Congratulations to Phi Vuong and Jaime Randall for being our respective male and female overall top finishers!
We certainly could not have done this event if it wasn’t for our dedicated and overachieving corps of volunteers. We were overwhelmed by your support for us and could never have been as successful as were without your tireless efforts. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
