A recent survey of veterans and clinicians in San Diego found that 70 percent of veterans and 30 percent of clinicians were unaware of aquatic therapy. Furthermore, most respondents — 90 percent of veterans and 72 percent of clinicians — were unaware of Wave Academy as a provider of water therapy. This data helps us identify new outreach and communications strategies.
The research was led by a team from the Military Public Affairs Master’s Program at San Diego State University’s School of Journalism & Media Studies. The program is open to mid-career Public Affairs Officers in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
The team interviewed active duty military personnel, veterans and clinicians to produce their quantitative research. They also conducted two in-depth interviews with current clients. Their report included PR tactics though communication channels and opportunities to connect with alumni of the program. They team also produced a 30-second video for us that you can view in the link.
We are implementing their recommendations, starting with an alumni social event on Oct. 26 at Protector Brewery. The event is free and open to friends and family members. Click here to RSVP.
Wave Academy wishes to thank Dr. Kaye Sweetster and the SDSU-JMS master’s team for their quality research and report to help make our program stronger in order to serve more veterans.
