Development & Communications Director
Susan Johnson is a dedicated nonprofit professional with extensive experience in developing and fundraising, having developed and founded a community-based support program. She has worked with vulnerable populations and grew another nonprofit from an idea to a $600,000 operating budget with $1M of assets. She is also in progress on the prestigious Certified Fund Raising Certificate (CFRE). She holds a degree in Organizational Management from Point Loma Nazarene University and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management.
Susan’s commitment to healing work is deeply personal. Her father, a US Navy Hospital Corpsman who fought in the Vietnam War, struggled with PTSD that profoundly shaped their family dynamics. This lived experience with the intergenerational impacts of trauma informs her empathetic approach to service and advocacy.
Now at Healing Wave Aquatics, Susan is excited to leverage her knowledge and nonprofit expertise to support veterans and others affected by trauma. She is passionate about the organization’s innovative aquatic therapy programs and committed to expanding access to therapeutic services that promote healing and resilience for individuals and families navigating the effects of trauma.
