Wave Academy’s mission is to provide exceptional warm water therapy to underserved individuals who have experienced trauma. This can only be achieved through partnership with skilled practitioners. Wave Academy offers a career pathway for vets who have been through our program. After completing the therapy program, vets can inquire about the steps toward a career as an aquatic practitioner. Several of Wave Academy's current aquatic practitioners started as clients and then took the necessary training to become licensed and certified as a practitioner.
Aquatic Bodywork Certification
There are two steps toward certification as an Aquatic Bodywork Practitioner. The first step is to earn a license to touch in the State of California as a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) or as a Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP). If you have at least 500 hours of massage education, then you are eligible for applying to become a CMT, or Certified Massage Therapist in California. The second step is to develop an education and skills to become an Aquatic Practitioner. Wave Academy can refer students to several Watsu® instructors, who provide a series of classes that are specific to warm water therapy and aquatic massage techniques. These classes take an additional 500 hours of training. Upon completion of both the CMT and Watsu® training, an individual can apply to become certified by the Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association (WABA) and placed on the Worldwide Registry as a Watsu® Pracititoner. Wave Academy practitioners must also provide a Certificate of Insurance covering the current period of service. Wave Academy recognizes that the cost of education and training for the Watsu® classes may be out of reach for some individuals.
